UConn uses Google Apps for Education for its student email system.
Your email account will be available to you before you begin classes at the University. If you are beginning classes as an undergraduate in the fall semester, your access will begin in mid-May when you have been matriculated into the University. If you are starting classes as an undergrad in January, you will have access to your University email account in mid-November. Graduate students are matriculated throughout the year and receive their email account at the time of admission.
You will receive official UConn correspondence via this email account. It is your responsibility to check the account frequently.
You can find out more about UConn Google Apps for Education at http://g.uconn.edu. Navigate through the site to learn about the additional applications you have access to through your UConn Google Apps for Education account. In addition to email, you have unlimited cloud storage through Google Drive. Other core services include Calendar (scheduling), Hangouts (video chat), Sites (website builder) and Groups (forum tools).
- Go to http://g.uconn.edu to log into your Google email account.
- Click “Log in to Google Apps”
- If you are logging in from a UConn website, your UConn Google Apps username is your firstname.lastname. If you are logging in from a non-UConn website or from your own personal Gmail email account, use firstname.lastname@example.org for your your UConn Google Apps username/login ID.
- Enter the password you have set for your University account. If you are a first-time user, set your password by navigating to http://g.uconn.edu and click the yellow Activate/Reset Password button. Once you do that, you can use your University email account from both home and school. Please note that your UConn Google Apps username is not your NetID.
To view and verify your UConn email account name, access the UConn Phone Book at http://phonebook.uconn.edu/. Enter your name and click the Search button.
In addition to receiving UConn email through Google and the core services through that account, you can also opt-in to Public Services. This is an additional suite of applications that you can have access to if you agree to terms of service. Navigate to http://g.uconn.edu and click the green button for Opt-in to Public Services. This process will allow you to use your UConn Google account with Google+, Picasa, Google Takeout, Maps, YouTube and more!
